Keeping Small Mammals Happy and Healthy
Don't be fooled by their small size--rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, and other small mammals need routine care and plenty of space just as dogs and cats do. Our veterinarians can provide routine exams to make sure your tiny companions are healthy, active, and enjoying life.
The wellness exam is also the perfect time for us to answer any questions you have. Whether you're new to keeping small mammals or have been doing so for years, we'll cover various topics including:
Proper nutrition for meals and treats
The size, climate, and cleanliness of their habitat
Grooming tips
Exercise
Socialization with people and other animals
Providing for Your Bird's Needs
Though their affections are well worth it, birds are high-maintenance pets, and they need a lot of your attention in order to stay happy. Maintaining a clean, spacious environment is critical to keeping them healthy since they can develop illnesses just like mammals can.
The most important aspects of your bird's care include:
A healthy, balanced diet
Frequent interaction to keep them social and active
A clean cage that is large enough for your bird(s) to flap their wings or even fly
Regular grooming
Appropriate toys to chew on to prevent beak overgrowth
Items to provide your bird with mental stimulation while you're away
We would prefer to see your bird at least once a year for an exam and wellness screening so we can check for disease. Birds hide their illnesses well, so veterinary care is a must.
Care for Reptiles
Reptiles may be cold-blooded, but they still have the ability to warm our hearts. And despite their tough skin, they're not immune to disease and respiratory infections. Bring your reptile in to see us at least once a year for their wellness checkup and possible bloodwork so we can make sure they're in peak condition.
During this time we will also discuss:
Nutrition and feeding habits
The climate of their environment (UV light, temperature)
Keeping their enclosure clean and perfectly suitable for your pet's needs
How to recognize illness
Proper handling and socializing
The environment is an important factor in your reptile's health. Keep their space clean and consistently maintained so they can enjoy a long, happy life in your care.
